After Jesus’s death, resurrection and ascension unto heaven, an angel appeared before several disciples who were standing gazing upward at the sky and asked, “Why are you still standing gazing up?”
During any period of uncertainty or distress many are stilled in silence. The event of Jesus’s ascension marked three significant impacts in the chronological age. The first, defeating death having risen into the glory of the Father so that every believer would have life everlasting. Secondly, the voice of the angel proclaiming in the like manner of Jesus’s ascension, all inhabitants of the earth will witness his return, called the Lord’s 2nd Coming.
Thirdly, as Matthew shares Jesus’ instructions to all believers to go throughout the world and teach the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Once, the ends of the earth have heard the truths of God’s Grace, salvation by faith alone in his Son Jesus Christ, are indications of the time that the end of this age is near.
The Good News of the Lord’s return, is a time for rejoicing but also of severe trials of believers and yet of perseverance in faith, as well. Which Matthew explains, the series of events metaphorically compared to harvest time and willowing of wheat, of gathering and of separating as descriptive of economic and atmospheric instability, as well as great suffering, identifying the time of describing the Tribulation events.
Significant as such for the Lord will ‘gather up’ believers identified metaphorically as wheat, connoting having endured persecution, remaining in faith.
